Why is Goal Setting Important When It Comes to Women’s Health?

Before I dive into why goal setting is important, I’m going to indulge you a bit on Liz Rodriguez. I am someone who has been goal setting for years. I love the start of the New Year, mapping out career and personal goals and checking them off as they are completed. So when this thing called Covid hit, I was in the middle of executing the goal of growing a brand new fitness club in Westchester, New York, with the notion of using that as ammunition to move back to NYC when my company opened up a new club around 18 months later in Brooklyn. And then things stopped and I had no idea what to do. So I started to explore more education and came upon Wellcoaches. After an info session I signed up to become a Health and Well-Being coach, assuming this was what I needed to propel my career forward in the face of changes within our industry.  It was through this journey that I was able to become unblocked, and for the first time in my career, really fully embrace my personal wellness and take better care of myself. I was prioritizing my sleep, eating better, working out more consistently, and just feeling better.

A lightbulb went off. I had started working with clients on health and wellness habits over the years, but this was the first time that I could see the full picture how crucial these were in order to help them reach their fitness goals. It became more imperative that I learn skills to help them connect with things like stress, sleep, water intake and self-care. If they couldn’t do these things, how could I get them to really embrace their strength and cardio workouts?

Understanding the Role of Goal Setting in Women’s Health

So to reel it back in, why do we need to goal set with women? Because we are juggling so much in today’s world. We are the caretakers, the parents, the sisters, the good friends, the loyal employees. And we are really good at putting everyone first except for ourselves. Goal setting allows you the time and space to think through what YOU want. It gives you the opportunity to map out your vision of health, of what you want to do more of, what you want to work on. And it also allows for proper planning. You can plan for derailments in your schedule, have tools in your back pocket when you are….

Why is Goal Setting Important in Women’s Health?

We’re committing to it, we are writing it down. We are setting an intention, just as we do for our careers, for our families and for any long-term goal that we are looking to accomplish.. We are goal setting to have a plan, to take into account derailments, being uninspired, or feeling unmotivated.

Creating Effective Goals for Women’s Health

Creating effective goals comes down to personalization. The goals need to be attainable for the individual. Execution and small successes are the driver to help that person to want to continue to keep going and move towards larger goals. But in order for that to happen, celebrating the small wins are crucial in continued success. Those small effective goals also teach that person how planning and implementation to result in less relapses and seeing their health and wellness goals as temporary.
